APPROVAL OF MINUTES

motion was made by Ms. Nash, seconded by Ms. Bradley, to approve the minutes of
September 9, 2008

The September 9, 2008 minutes
were approved.
REVISITING WEBSTER 20/20: A VISION FOR THE ARTS
The
Commission discussed the Arts Directory created by Ms. Bakker, including
funding for the project.
The
Commission discussed celebrating 2010 as a Year of the Arts, and integrating an
arts component into City events throughout the year.
It
was suggested by Mayor Welch that the Commission come up with a couple of ideas
to move forward. The Commission discussed additional public art and an arts
center as key ideas.
A
subgroup was assembled to identify locations for public art within the City. A
group was also assembled to come up with a list of potential artists or
pieces.
The
Commission will visit Brother Mel at his gallery on October 28, 2008. Ms.
Bradley is organizing the visit.
OTHER ISSUES
Mr.
Drissell stated that they have 12 submissions for the Awards of Excellence.
They have been juried already. Ten awards have been decided on and will be
handed out on November 20, at 7 p.m., at the Hawken House History Center Barn.
Mayor
Welch and Ms. Mann will contact the nominee for the Lifetime Achievement in the
Arts award to see when he is available for a reception.
