CROSSROADS BUSINESS DISTRICT PUBLIC ART

Ms. Conrad outlined the procedures for placing public art on private land that were provided by the City Attorney. The Commission discussed their role in facilitating public art. Representatives from the Arts Commission will attend the next Crossroads meeting on Tuesday, November 17 at 8:30 a.m. to hear their ideas and talk to them about the public art process.

Ms. Bradley stated that she talked to a Webster University sculpture teacher regarding a student show at Kirkham and Gore at the end of next semester. Ms. Conrad will talk to the City Manager regarding this possibility.  Mr. Drissell will work on installation guidelines.

LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT IN THE ARTS

Ms. Bradley will contact Mr. Boccia regard an invitation list, theme, and the usage of an image for the invitations. She will also be choosing pieces for display following his current show.

YEAR OF THE ARTS

It was suggested that the letters requesting arts events submissions be given to the Chamber of Commerce for distribution.

ARTS DIRECTORY

The Commission discussed the possibility that a directory might be somewhat cumbersome, and that something more along the lines of a brochure might offer more ease of use. The information for the brochure/directory is what is necessary for the explorewg.com website.  Ms. Conrad will make sure the information is passed along to those doing the site.

BUDGET

Some suggestions for use of the $5,000 in the current budget include: identification tags for current public art pieces, additional tricycles at the Recreation Complex, a piece at Lockwood and Berry, a speaker brought in collaboration with the Regional Arts Commission, and a children’s music concert at the tricycle sculpture.  Commissioners will bring additional ideas to the January 12 meeting.

OTHER BUSINESS

The Awards of Excellence reception is Thursday, November 19, from 7-9 pm at the Hawken House History Center Barn.

Due to the Board and Commission Holiday Party, there will be no meeting in December.  The next meeting of the Arts Commission is January 12, 2010.

ADJOURNMENT

There being no further business to come before the Commission, the meeting was adjourned at 8:55 p.m.
