APPROVAL OF MINUTES

A motion was made by Ms. Ferrigno, seconded by Ms. Evans to approve the minutes of February 9, 2010.

AYES: AHEARN, BAKKER, BRADLEY, DRISSELL, EVANS, FERRIGNO, GREAVES, MANN

NOES: NONE

ABSENT: ALLEN

The February 9, 2010 minutes were approved.

 

PRESENTATION FROM TIMOTHY O’LEARY – REVIEW

It was reported that Art & Air has already followed up with Mr. O’Leary regarding the possibility of performers also performing at Art & Air.  It was also reported that Davis Allen followed up with the Opera Theatre regarding Webster Night at the Opera.  The event will be Wednesday, June 23 at 8:00 p.m.  A subcommittee of Mr. Allen, Ms. Bakker, Ms. Mann and Mayor Welch will proceed with the plans. 

 

BUDGET

A motion was made by Ms. Bradley, seconded by Ms. Greaves to request $5,000 in FY 2011 for public art and a grant program.

The motion was passed.  Ms. Conrad will submit the request.

 

PUBLIC ART PROCESS

The Commission discussed the public art process. It was decided that Mr. Drissell, Ms. Bradley and Ms. Evans will hone the information already assembled by Mr. Allen and Mr. Drissell. 

 

YEAR OF THE ARTS

Mr. Ahearn reported that he met with Torris Caston, from Caston’s Ballet Academie regarding an event for YOTA.  Ms. Bakker has met with the Shining Rivers School and Laclede Groves regarding events they wish to host as well.

 

CROSSROADS BUSINESS DISTRICT PUBLIC ART

Mr. Allen will attend the next Crossroads meeting on March 16.

 

BROTHER MEL SCULPTURES

The auction of the Brother Mel pieces will be in Kansas in several weeks.  It was decided that as we already have three, and wish to have a diverse collection of art, we should pass the information along to other individuals who might want the pieces such as Dave Sanders, Bob Springer, or Dan Stevens.

 

ADJOURNMENT

There being no further business to come before the Commission, the meeting was adjourned at 9:32 p.m.
