CROSSROADS BUSINESS DISTRICT - UPDATE

The Crossroads Business District is putting the mural plans on hold for the time being and looking into a landscaping plan, which would not go before the Arts Commission.  The Commission will be kept informed on any art proposals that move forward.

AMERICA IN BLOOM JUDGES COMMENTS

Mayor Welch stated that the America in Bloom (AIB) judges were in Webster Groves June 14 and 15.  Evaluations will be out in September or October.  One of the judges had several suggestions for Webster Groves, including murals made of photographs, banners featuring local artists, and summer music on the street in the business districts.

Mayor Welch, Ms. Ferrigno, Mr. Drissell, and Ms. Bakker will work on the summer music portion in conjunction with the Business Development Commission and the Business Districts.

MISSOURI CHAMBER MUSIC FESTIVAL

Ms. Ferrigno introduced the Missouri Chamber Music Festival, a non-profit performing arts organization she and her husband formed.  It is a two week chamber music festival.  They are seeking volunteers.  2011 is to be the inaugural year.

PUBLIC ART PLAN

The Commission discussed the public art plan and how to bring it before Council. Mayor Welch stated that there are three potential scenarios for use of this plan.  1. Someone comes to the City with a piece of art to place – we are reacting, not soliciting.  2. We have a piece that we want and are looking for a donor. 3. We have money, and are looking for a response.

Ms. Evans will put together what is in a “typical” RFP for public art.  Our next step is creating the guidelines.

COMMUNITY DAYS PARADE

Ms. Greaves stated that we are #19 in the lineup and we need four wheel walkers for the float. Ms. Greaves, Mr. Allen, Ms. Bakker and Mr. Drissell agreed to participate.

MISCELLANEOUS UPDATES

Mr. Drissell handed out brochures and posters for this year’s Awards of Excellence program.  The deadline for submissions is September 3.

ADJOURNMENT

There being no further business to come before the Commission, the meeting was adjourned at 9:03 p.m.
