APPROVAL OF MINUTES

A motion was made by Ms. Bradley, seconded by Ms. Greaves, to approve the minutes of September 20, 2010.

ABSENT: ALLEN, BAKKER, EVANS, FERRIGNO

The September 20, 2010 minutes were approved.

 

BROTHER MEL DEDICATION

The dedication will be November 4 at 4:30 p.m. at the sculpture site. Ms. Bradley will pick Brother Mel up. The Commission discussed plans for the event, including a ribbon cutting and drumline.  

 

LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT IN THE ARTS AWARD NOMINATION

Ms. Bakker reported that Jonathan Franzen will be in St. Louis in October 2011 per his agent.  The Commission will pursue this option. 

 

ARTWAYS BROCHURE

Mr. Drissell stated that he and Mr. Allen gave their presentation to the Community Arts Foundation. They are interested in working with the Commission on Public Art. Future steps include discussing the brochure with Webster University, investigating public art that interests the commission, and looking at one specific site in the community. At the next meeting, Commission members will bring hard copies of art and artists. 

 

MISCELLANEOUS UPDATES

Mr. Ahearn discussed the Caston Ballet Academie event.  They were happy with the turnout, and raised about $2,000.  The Commission thanked Mr. Ahearn for his work on this project.

 

Mr. Drissell stated that the jury night for this year’s Awards of Excellence was last week.  There are three awards and four honorable mentions to be handed out at this year’s ceremony.  The awards ceremony is Thursday, November 18 at 7 p.m. at the Hawken House History Center Barn.
