APPROVAL OF MINUTES

A motion was made by Ms. Bradley, seconded by Mr. Drissell, to approve the minutes of October 25, 2010.

AYES: AHEARN, BRADLEY, DRISSELL, EVANS, FERRIGNO, MANN

NOES: NONE

ABSENT: ALLEN, BAKKER, GREAVES

The October 25, 2010 minutes were approved.

 

LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT IN THE ARTS

The Commission discussed the nomination of Jonathan Franzen whether it is based on popularity or achievement, as well as whether it is necessary for him to be present to receive the award.  Ms. Mann will prepare language for the qualifications for the award. 

 

A motion was made by Ms. Bakker, and seconded by Mr. Drissell to award Jonathan Franzen the 2011 Lifetime Achievement in the Arts Award. 

AYES: BAKKER, BRADLEY, DRISSELL, EVANS, FERRIGNO, MANN

NOES: AHEARN

The motion was passed.

 

PUBLIC ART

The Commission discussed pieces of Public Art that they liked.  Ms. Bakker and Ms. Mann passed around pieces they liked.  Ms. Bakker stated that Newport News, Virginia has a program similar to ArtWays.

 

The Commission discussed the Catherine Magel piece that had previously been mentioned for Crossroads.  Ms. Evans will speak with Ms. Magel to see if the piece is still available.  If not, we will consider commissioning a piece.  If it is available, a group will go to see the piece to get a better idea of it and the dimensions.

 

MISCELLANEOUS UPDATES

Mr. Drissell stated that the Awards of Excellence awards ceremony is Thursday the 18th at 7:00 at the Hawken House Barn.

There being no further business to come before the Commission, the meeting was adjourned at 8:31 p.m.
