LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT IN THE ARTS

The Commission discussed the nomination of Jonathan Franzen. It was decided that the Mayor will write a letter, asking if he is willing to accept the award in some way, (in person or by video).  If we do not get a response, we will seek other nominations.

The Commission reviewed parameters for the award submitted by Judy Mann.

PUBLIC ART

In December, many members of the Commission visited Catherine Magel’s studio to look at the bird sculpture, and want to move forward with procuring the piece.  Mayor Welch handed out information on the process this must go through.

A motion was made by Ms. Bakker, seconded by Mr. Allen, to pursue the acquisition of the Catherine Magel bird sculpture in mosaic finish to be placed in Webster Gro ves.

AYES: ALLEN, BAKKER, BRADLEY, DRISSELL, EVANS, FERRIGNO

NOES: NONE

ABSENT: AHEARN, GREAVES, MANN

The motion was passed.

Possible locations for the piece were discussed and included Barbre Park, the triangles at Kirkham & Gore, and Crossroads. Ms. Evans has foam that she will use to block out a model of the piece so we can see how the size will fit in at the various locations. The group agreed to meet at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 26 at the triangles.

The Commission discussed fundraising for the piece.

MISCELLANEOUS UPDATES

Ms. Evans stated that she has been approached by Dave Sanders regarding a sculpture show.

Mayor Welch stated that she has mentioned the lack of outdoor sculpture at the University to the President of Webster University.

ADJOURNMENT

There being no further business to come before the Commission, the meeting was adjourned at 8:45 p.m.
