CONTINUED
PUBLIC ART DISCUSSION
The
Commission looked at the plans sent over by SWT. Discussion included the
possibility of working more with the existing trees, the pavers in the grass,
the number of sculptures in the plan, the severity of the wall/angles, and
focusing on the Magel piece. Mr. Drissell will take the Commission comments to
SWT.
Mayor
Welch spoke with Kevin Trobaugh about the Elm and Big Bend piece. He is working
on a sketch. When we have a final sketch, we will go to Crossroads with the
news.
AWARDS
OF EXCELLENCE
The
Awards of Excellence were kicked off last month. At this week’s Farmers Market,
Mr. Drissell will be giving out information and applications in the Community
booth. Applications are due in September.
LIFETIME
ACHIEVEMENT IN THE ARTS
Mayor
Welch talked with Janice Seele, who thinks presenting the award on the Friday
prior to the Arts Weekend is a great idea. Mr. Drissell will talk with Esley
Hamilton about his availability on October 28.
ARTS
WEEKEND
The
next meeting is Wednesday, July 13, at 8 a.m. The theme for this event is
“Paint the Town.” People are needed to work on Development/Sponsorships and
Volunteers.
NIGHT
AT THE OPERA
The
event was successful and fun again this year. The Commission discussed the
possibility of getting started on this even earlier next year, so we can put
information in flyers that parents would receive during the school year.
PARADE
The
float was successful and won an award. The Commission discussed the
possibility of having the Lifetime Achievement Award winner ride in a car or on
the float in the future.
CHAMBER
MUSIC FESTIVAL
This
year’s festival was a big success. Ms. Ferrigno stated that they are already
working on next year.
MISCELLANEOUS
UPDATES
Mr.
Ahearn stated that he read that Maplewood is contracting out to paint their
electrical boxes. How could we do something similar? Mayor Welch stated that
it would have to go through City Council.
ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business to come before
the Commission, the meeting was adjourned at 8:50 p.m.
